MY THOUGHTS -

Hello Shawn fans.  Teri (Shawn’s Mom) here.  I feel like there are so many misconceptions out there about Shawn and her intentions, I would really like you all to have the facts.  Most recently Shawn gave an interview and she stated that she was going to finish high school through an online school option.  With all of her sponsor commitments and other opportunities that have come following the Olympics, Shawn had gotten so far behind in school that it was necessary to do this.  Shawn desperately wanted to complete high school with her graduating class, circumstances just won’t allow that.  We researched and found an online high school that is compatible with the colleges that Shawn is interested in attending.  This way Shawn can continue her travels and take advantage of the opportunities that are coming her way while completing high school.   Our family very naively thought that after the Olympics we would return home and go back to business and life as we knew it.  That was not to happen.  Now, we as a family just try to take each opportunity/challenge as they come and deal with them one at a time.  Shawn’s dad and I have always tried to support Shawn’s decisions with regard to her future as her happiness is our main concern.  We believe that Shawn’s success is the result of her doing what makes her happy.  I sincerely hope that all of Shawn’s fans have faith that she is the same Shawn that she has always been.  Thanks so much for all that you do.  God bless.  Shawn’s Mom

Dear Terry, You have a beautiful and talented Daughter! I’m so proud for you as she has made so many accomplishments in her young life!

Please don’t allow her to lose the self respect that you have obviously instilled in her. She always appears as the young lady she is…and we parents don’t see that much anymore, especially in the limelight. There are so many young ladies ruining their reputations and inevidibly their respect.

We have to protect our sweet, innocent children! Thanks

  2. Teri, I really hope you read this. You will never know how much my husband and I appreciate what you did for us at the Hall of Pride. You made our 35th anniversay trip very, very special! Shawn and her show were great ! She is such a spcial young lady! Since we had the pleasure of meeting Shawn, Mark, Derek, Lacey and Steve-O, we felt like the trip couldn’t get any better, but it did because the show was so enjoyablet! You are a very nice, gracious lady and it was a pleasure meeting you. May God Bless you all and keep you safe in your travels.

    Teri,
thanks for your posting. Every so often some negative people (who will critcize anything/anyone) criticize Shawn’s use of the online school. Here is my perspective: “Every obnoxious act is a cry for help.” They are likely just jealous.

I met you and Shawn when you were at a corporate event before the Olympics, and you were both delightful, “real” people.

You guys are great parents…and Shawn’s skills & confidence reflect that.

Best to all three of you!

  7. Terri, Your family is an inspiration to mine. Please know that there are people in the world who will support Sawn’s decisions no matter what they may be. You are awesome, and you have an awesome husband and daughter.

As long as you do what you like and you are convinced your choices are the right ones, there is just nothing to say about all this. Some people may agree, others will disagree, and so what. Just do what makes you happy as a family, your happiness is the greatest thing of all.
    All the best to you.

I am proud of what you have accomplished at the Olympic Games. I too am a gymnast. You have the whole world in front of you. Take advantage of it. I am sorry that you won’t be able to graduate with your friends. Nobody understands the commitment it takes to be a gymnast let alone an Olympic gymnast. I honestly believe in that you are doing the best for you. Regarding your decisions that’s really between you and your parents. Continuing on and going to college is awesome. You are still the sweet girl we fell in love with. You have a great relationship with your parents. You are a great roll model to me. I would like to meet you some day. Taylor -12

Dear Shawn and Terry, Shawn is perhaps the most delightful young girl. There is doupt in my mind that she will fallow the morals, ethics and values your family has instilled in her. She is a great role model to all teenagers. She has still a long way to go in life. I have to say I am proud that there are countries future is led by leader like Shawn. My best wishes to shawn and your family.

    Mrs. Johnson,
I’m am 11 year old gymnast near Washington DC and I think Shawn should do what her heart tells her to do. Not to base her decisions on what others will think. Also, will Shawn continue gym or will she stick with dancing after her being on Dancing With The Stars??
    Thanks.

  13. Volunteer from a non-profit says:

    Hi Teri,

We can’t imagine how hard it is to balance all of the opportunities with friends, studies, and social life… but we know that the non-profit work Shawn is doing is at PHD level…and is very appreciated by all of us who volunteer…especially organizations focused on children.

Thanks for raising such an incredibly lady who gives back in a way that only Shawn, her smile, and love of gymnastics can.
